See what happens when Madonna changes her outfit?

(Following up on the whole John McCain thing.)

In Madonna live shows, her clothes and set change drastically about four times a show. Sometimes this doesn't take much time, and you never notice you were "waiting" because there was a small extended intro to the song (and actually it usually makes it even more fun and amazing when she makes a grand entrance... her shows are all about grand entrances, over and over.)
But sometimes the changes in between sections are so long, that there's an interlude. During this time you are entertained without even the attempt to make you think it's a regular number. Sometimes it's the dancers going crazy, hanging from ribbons, or fighting eachother, or skateboarding. Or sometimes there's video interludes.

And that's what happened with the whole John McCain thing.

At one point in the Sticky and Sweet show, while the real Madonna is backstage getting B12 injections and changing her clothes, having bleeding edge LED screens delivered via nanotechnology you can't buy yet, video Madonna out on stage. She looks really cool and has a monocle, and is wagging her finger at us. She's a visitor from a future Apple commercial or something, demanding we think carefully about the choices we make today. Look, there's Hitler, and dead people, and.... John McCain! (And I think Mitt Romney, guess they didn't Sarah Palin coming)

So anyway, yeah. John McCain got mad, even though she doesn't really compare them exactly. But what everybody needs to understand is what this is really about: Madonna had to change her clothes. Duh.

New word alert: Madonna Puppet

(Used to describe dance)

The Madonna Puppet is when Madonna gets all floppy, and lets herself be easily manipulated, either by dancers, or prop like a conveyor belt.

Example:

Honestly, I'm not sure I've seen Madonna Puppet previous to Sticky and Sweet. While Madonna has heavily used conveyor belts before, it's not to this affect. Also, when dancers moved her previously, it was either collaboratively, or in a fight scene. (Let's not get started w/ Fight Scenes. Totally separate New Word Alert.)

New word alert: Stumble Dance

When you're familiar with an artist, you recognize and start to name their conventions and mannerisms. This doesn't make you crazy. To the contrary, it makes you literate!

I have many names for Madonna's mannerisms and moves, "Sailor Voice," "Music Lunge," I could go on and on... maybe one day we'll get to them all.

Tonight I share, "Stumble Dance." Stumble Dance was first identified on the Confessions Tour, and made a big impression on many of us! It's sometimes known as "Stumbley Dance." It's often found alongside Stompy Dance, but is a separate move. Below is a perfect specimen of Stumble Dance.

Also fun: hearing fans totally lose their isht.

Fansanity: Sim version of Britney's Human Nature scenes

Somebody couldn't wait to share a vision of what Britney's filmed scenes would look like for Human Nature, and uploaded this Sim version in July:

Fansanity: Wants a standalone shot of Britney's filmed shots? Done!

Part of the Madonna fan experience is martyrdom. It's getting a cramp in your arm, pointing a camera at a single overhead screen (they're all showing different things, so pick and stay!), standing as still as possible, not moving your arm, and probably not enjoying the show. Don't feel too bad for these Madonnamentarians, though. They're going to 20 shows.

Let's appreciate this fan, who fixed his/her camera intently on the screen showing Britney in an elevator, during Human Nature, not distracted by the actual Madonna performance on stage, or other screens displaying it.

Oh wait! Giant M logo is not screen action, it's a huge giant M logo!
